Revolution is a sequence of poetry that reflects upon the theory of the dérive through philosophical, psychogeographical and creative enquiry. It details how a country is determined by revolution; what impact life at the hands of, and as a result of, activist oppression has on its citizens; how slogans and propaganda control psychological and neurobiological behaviour; how it is easy to misconstrue and decipher another’s intended meaning; how the obliteration of an original language and the forced imposition of an assumed linguistic programme alters the dialectal voice of a current generation. The work converges on the duality of conscious & subconscious and language & communication; how immersion into a space demonstrates multiple layers of history through ruination and rebuilding; and how interpretation of these layers gives understanding to the construction of political and social landscapes – be they real or imagined.
